Provincia of Salerno pursues among its aims the implementation of a qualified protection and enhancement programme for environment and wine & food resources. An important and momentous step of that programme is represented by the Green Expo of European Rural Areas, organized by Provincia of Salerno and supported by a wide range of institutional partnerships. The event has been set up on the following target: to boost a sector that needs to be fully supported, in order to heighten its potentials and to orient tourist demand towards offers mainly focused on the eco-naturalist feature of many areas in the countries of Mediterranean basin, as well as in Southern Italy. Nowadays it is important to build up strong networks among institutions. On a long term, Green Expo intends to become one of the pillars of a general process of growth based on tourism and above all on integrated local development policies. Strategies and approaches have undergone a change: target markets can not be merely international oriented, but the national demand is relevant and crucial as well. It is necessary to avoid that local identities be uncertain and undefined. The achievement of increasingly high quality standards of our areas and the entire accommodation cluster represents the great challenge in the coming years: a test bed for both the public sector and the private one. A challenge that is compulsory to overcome not to be left out of a general and productive process of growth. Angelo Villani President, Provincia of Salerno
The challenge of the 4th edition of Green Expo lies on the opportunity to improve the socio-tourist dimension of the European rural areas. Relying on a well-established practice, Green Expo places Cilento among the ideal models of development for the majority of the EU and national underused areas. Arts, tradition, nature, archaelogy, environment, wine & food : very niche products which, arranged in a various and comprehensive single cultural offer, aim to become the hub of development, not competing with the Italian and European traditional tourist destinations, but rather looking for a profitable and useful integration with them. Green Expo has taken up this challenge since the beginning, reaching Interregional levels at first (thanks to the relationship with other National Parks in Central and Southern Italy), then International ones, through the valorisation of several identities where ‘rural’ means traditions, distinctive ways of living and eco-sustainable approach in all the different European areas.
